Απεβίωσε ο εμπνευστής της Pop Art

                         Ο Ρίτσαρντ Χάμιλτον, ένας από τους ιδρυτές της αγγλικής "Pop Art" απεβίωσε σήμερα το πρωί σε ηλικία 89 ετών, ανακοίνωσε η γκαλερί Gagosian, η οποία εκπροσωπεί τον Βρετανό καλλιτέχνη.

Ο Χάμιλτον συμμετείχε στην δεκαετία του '50 σε μία ανεξάρτητη ομάδα η οποία εμπνεύστηκε από τη μοντέρνα αστική κουλτούρα και συνέβαλε στη δημιουργία της Pop Art.

Γνώρισε αμέσως την επιτυχία μέσα από τους πίνακες, τα κολάζ και τα γλυπτά του, τα οποία χλεύαζαν τα σύμβολα της καταναλωτικής κοινωνίας.

Έγινε ιδιαίτερα γνωστός με το κολάζ με τίτλο "Τι είναι αυτό που κάνει τα σημερινά σπίτια τόσο διαφορετικά, τόσο ελκυστικά;" που δημιούργησε το 1965 και το οποίο απεικονίζει έναν μπόντι μπίλντερ να ποζάρει μέσα σε ένα μοντέρνο σπίτι.

Ο Ρίτσαρντ Χάμιλτον ήταν επίσης ο εμπνευστής του εξωφύλλου του Λευκού άλμπουμ των Beatles.

More Info	During ReMap 3, the international contemporary art programme in Metaxourgio / Keramikos district, Vamiali’s gallery with great pleasure will present the project “Reach the sky” in collaboration with Anneta Papadatou. Participating artists: APSET, BOOHAHA, RTMone, SIVE “Reach the sky” is a site-specific street art project especially created for the open lot at 36 Leonidou street. An ad hoc construction will be built having as source of inspiration the city’s sky and point of departure the idea of the fenced space itself where the final result will be a surprise until the very last moment and will be completed little before the exhibition’s beginning. The participating well known graffiti artists, all very young with a fresh point of view, will work collaboratively and will question the limitations of their style using humor and creativity in an interactive approach within the environment itself. Dafni Barbageorgopoulou, Doug Fishbone, Assaf Gruber, Katerina Kana, Theo Prodromidis, Alexandros Psychoulis. In this year's Remap -that is in its own right a walk in the historical centre of Athens- the viewer is asked to walk through the area in order to discover and track works of art displayed in balconies or windows of buildings, all around the area of KM. The works that are placed above the eye level, are "displayed" in a balcony to be "exhibited" to their audience, to "address" their audience, therefore due to their position, they obtains a somewhat "godlike" status. The position of the viewer on street level and that of the work of art a few metres above ground, is possibly creating what Kant called the sublime. Especially during this time that Greece is in an intense political and economical situation, the notions of "display", "exhibition" "position" that the balcony offers, are even more relevant. What do we choose to "exhibit" "display" or "support" today? Possibly works of art are one of the few that are left.
